Diets are something we hear about and talk about almost every day, there is always a new diet or something that is supposed to help us drop a ton of weight, fix our terrible bloating problems or just make us feel better 100% of the time. I have tried almost every diet out there trying to fit myself into a box, so that I could have a label that would explain the way I eat. I have been vegetarian, vegan, tried dairy free, sugar free, paleo, I’ve gone to a nutritionist and gotten a meal plan, used the 21 day fix meal plan and containers and I can honestly say that none of those work for ME. For some reason being restricted like that really just doesn’t work for me, when I eat 100% intuitively I feel healthier, end up toning up and I feel like I have a much healthier relationship with food and my body image.
I still eat healthy, good for me foods, but I eat them when I want, and in portions that I don’t measure because I stop when I am full. Now I know that this method will not and does not work for everyone, many people need structure and need to count calories or use portion control containers to stay in a healthy range of calories. Also, many people do have sever sensitivities to foods or they really feel passionate about being a vegetarian or vegan, and I say go for it.
The purpose of this post is to say that find what works for YOU. What works for your best friend, your mom, your personal trainer, your health coach may not work for you and that’s okay. Its taken me a long time to figure out what works for me and from time to time I still try and fit myself into one of these boxes. I still try and do the 21 day fix meal plan or count calories even though I know it does’t work for me. Usually when I do try this, I do really well for a week or 2 and then I slowly fall off the wagon until it becomes me just eating crap for a couple of days. Then I always say to myself damn, I know these diet plans don’t work for me so why do I continue to try them?!?
So this is my official, I am giving up diets post. That does’t mean I am throwing in the towel and giving up on achieving my goals, I am just listening to my body and eating intuitively. I will still be enjoying healthy foods 90% of the time, but I will not be counting calories, restricting foods or labeling myself with some diet plan.
