Sick Snow days and Smoothies

Sick Snow days and Smoothies

Happy Monday everyone! Monday’s are usually one of my favorite days because it is the start of a new week, and I love fresh starts.  But today was freezing cold, snowing and I also don’t feel very well. I don’t know what it is about the temperature change but whenever the weather changes drastically it seems to really mess with my body.  The combination of the bad weather and not eating super healthy over the weekend is not a good combo for me because I am sick, not to bad but an annoying cold.  Being sick can really screw things up, make me feel lazy and just want to lay in bed for most of the day, so that’s what I did all day yesterday and most of the day today.  Yesterday I took off from working out, but today I did a little circuit just because sometimes working out makes me feel a little better (which it did).  I also made sure to drink a ton of water, tea and vitamin C.  I am hoping to be 100% better by Wednesday because I just got a new job and I am meeting with them to discuss my schedule Wednesday afternoon!

Here are 2 of the smoothies I enjoyed today! They are both packed with fruits and veggies which will hopefully help me fight off this cold!

Very Berry Breakfast Smoothie

1/2 cup almond milk

1/2 cup orange juice

huge handful of spinach

6oz plain, non-fat greek yogurt

1/4 cup frozen blueberries

1/2 cup frozen strawberries

5 frozen cherries

Vitamin C Smoothie

10 Baby Carrots

1 Banana

1/2 Cup Almond Milk

1/2 cup Orange Juice

2 inches Turmeric Root

1/4 cup frozen pineapple or mango

I had the first smoothie for breakfast with 2 of the muffins I made yesterday.  Then I had some Lentil soup for lunch, which is my FAVORITE soup, I will have to post the recipe on here soon.  Then, I enjoyed the delicious Vitamin C smoothie for a snack with some hummus and rye crisp breads and a black bean burger and roasted brussels sprouts for dinner! Happy meatless Monday!!

Now, for the workout portion of my sick day I wanted to stay super light.  Usually when I am sick I prefer to just go for an easy run but because of the snow that wasn’t and option, and I didn’t have any clients today so no real reason to drive all the way to the gym.  So I worked out in my basement, which I really like doing anyway.  I did a Kayla Itsines inspired circuit, for those of you who are not familiar with her she does 4, 7 minute circuits of 4 exercises, so each workout is about 28 minutes (not including rest between circuits).  I picked my own exercises and just used the Bikini Body Guide Timer I made on an app on my phone.

Circuit 1

20 Squats with Lateral Kicks

15 Push-Ups

20 Reverse Lunge Step Downs

15 Dumbbell Clean and Press

Circuit 2

30 Step Ups

10 each arm Dumbbell Snatch

40 Bicycle’s

20 Leg Lifts

I completed each circuit twice in the seven minutes.  This was a pretty light circuit for me, I used light weights but it was good to get my heart rate up there and my blood pumping before I went to work for a little bit.  It definitely gave me more energy than I would have had if I hadn’t done anything.

Although I had a pretty good day for being sick, I am really hoping that I kick this cold fast! And I also have my fingers crossed that this was the last snow storm, I am so so so ready for Spring.
