This weekend my boyfriend Derrick came to visit from VA, so we wanted to do some fun active things while he was here. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t to great for kayaking and beaching it like I had originally planned, but we got to go on a great hike instead. One of my requirements for a hike was that I didn’t want it to be to far away, which narrows it down quite a bit. Next, we wanted a relatively easy and shorter hike because of the possibility of rain and also because Derrick doesn’t hike to often or have much confidence in his cardiovascular capabilities. So, Mt. Monadnock it was!
I have done Mt. Monadnock before, it is a relatively easy hike, pretty short and it still has some great views! There were some pretty steep parts and some other times we had to do some climbing but there were plenty of kids on the trail so it is definitely a possibility for all ages and abilities. The hike in total took us about 3 hours, 2 on the way up and 1 on the way down. When I was reading about the hike before-hand I saw that it should take 3-4 hours but we went pretty quickly, especially on the way down because it started to rain and we didn’t want to get caught in a thunderstorm! The other thing about Mt. Monadnock is that it is a very popular hiking trail and if you pick a good day there are a lot of other hikers, which is a good and a bad thing. The most popular hiking trails are the white dot and cross trails which get you up the mountain the fastest, they are pretty steep, but doable! Overall, it was a great hike and definitely worth the trip if you live in New England.
I love hiking because its a great workout for your lower body and cardiovascular system. It is such a fun way to get in a good workout and be able to enjoy nature and the people you are with all at the same time. This was a great bonding experience for Derrick and I and I am so happy I was able to share this experience with him! I will definitely be doing some more hikes this summer!
