There are so many great things about the classic green smoothie, its simple, delicious, nutritious, and beautiful looking. Many of the other smoothies I make end up brown or some other weird color that tastes great but doesn’t look good. But this smoothie is gorgeous and is just as yummy as the other weirder looking ones. This smoothie is also super easy to make and there are so many different variations of it to make it fit exactly what you need! The recipe below is about 2 servings (at least), but if you’re like me you can devour this whole thing pretty quickly. I’ll split it into two servings if I am having it as a snack, or I’ll have the whole thing if it is a meal!
1 cup kale
1 cup spinach
1 cup of almond milk
1/2 water or coconut water
1 cup frozen mango or pineapple
1 scoop hemp protein powder (optional)
6 oz fat free, plain greek yogurt (optional)
1 tsp maca powder (optional)
dash or two of cinnamon (optional)
Blend greens and liquid on high for 30seconds to 1 minute, until all leaves are blended. Add in the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth, enjoy!
How do I know what to add?
So I know I added in a lot of optional ingredients into that list and what you add to it depends on your nutritional needs! I always add protein powder (all natural, hemp protein) and greek yogurt if I need extra protein, so after a workout or if I am having this as a whole meal. Maca powder is supposed to be good for endurance exercises and it increases energy without a huge crash like caffeine or sugar. I usually add maca powder if I am feeling like I need a little energy boost or if I plan on going on a long run later in the day. You can add all of these ingredients (what I did this morning), some of them, or just stick to the fruits and veggies which is what I do if I am just looking for a quick snack to hold me over until my next meal. Either way this smoothie is my favorite!!
