Austin, Texas

Austin, Texas

This past weekend I flew to Austin to visit my aunt and uncle, and also to see my parents who were down there as a stop on their road trip! I had an amazing weekend and really LOVED Austin! I just wish I had more time to spend there because it is definitely an awesome city with tons of bars, outdoorsy activities and excellent restaurants.

The first day we were there we went on search for some good hikes.  Unfortunately, there isn’t much elevation change in Austin, so the hikes were’t a strenuous as we are used to, but it was still a good active day and we saw some really cool things.

The first hike we went on was through the trails St. Edwards park and trail.  These trails followed along a small river/ stream thing and it was pretty cool, there were a couple of small waterfalls, totally worth it!  We also hiked Mount Bonnel, which gives you a pretty cool view of the city, the day we went was pretty hazy, but I imagine the view would have been incredible if the weather was better!!

The final ‘hike’ we did (I mean climb up some rock stairs and 5 minutes you’re at the top) was the Pennybacker bridge, it was really cool to view this bridge from the top, and picots came out really good, so that always makes for a better trip!

I’m sure the most popular thing that comes up when you search what to do in Austin is to walk down 6th street and check out the bars.  This is a must do! There was live music at almost every bar, they all had super cheap drink specials and no cover, so there is no reason not to bar hop down the whole street in one night!

One restaurant we ate at was Banger’s and I 100% recommend it! It was a sausage and beet garden place, definitely NOT healthy, but totally worth the treat! I got a veggie sausage with german potato salad and it was amazing! It had me looking up potato salad recipes on Pinterest on my way home (not that I have made one yet).  We also went to the South Congress Cafe for Brunch which was amazing! I got an omelette and split the carrot cake french toast with my family, which is a must have if you go there! Everything on the menu looked amazing, and they gave you mini corn muffins instead of bread, so basically the best restaurant ever in my opinion!

Overall Austin was an amazing trip! I only wish I had more time to spend there because there really is so much to do and so much to see.  So until next time Austin, I will definitely be back!
